Enclosure No. 7.
68
Hon. Capt. Supt. of Police,
1. We, the undersigned Superintendents of Police have the honour respectfully to submit that the present pay scheme of Superintendents drawing salaries of less than £800 per annum is inadequate owing to the small yearly increase of
their salaries.
The present pay scheme is shown in Table A attached.
2. It will be seen that the salary of a Superintendent increases by increments of £25 per annum for a period of 19 years from date of joining and that it is not until a Superintendent reaches a salary of £800 per annum that his
A salary is increased by increments of £50 per annum. Superintendent must therefore serve 25 years and attain the age of approximately 46 before he can reach his maximum
salary of £1,100 per amun.
3. It may reasonably be assumed, we think, that in order to marry an officer must have a salary of not less than £600 per annum. A Police Superintendent must serve 11 years and attain the age of 32 before he can reach that salaş -ry, under the present scheme. After about 15 years service, a Police Superintendent may reasonably expect promotion to rank of Deputy Superintendent but after such service his salary is only £700 per annum. Appointment to the rank of Deputy Superintendent necessarily entails increased responsibility. We submit that a salary of £700 per annum is not sufficient remuneration for a Deputy Superintendent's
services.
4. The work of a Police Superintendent in this Colony is of a strenuous nature. He is constantly called out on
duty after office hours or late at night in connection with matters of Routine, Crime, Serious Accidents, and other cases of an urgent nature. He has always to "stand by" in
case
